Ooh, it's so big! (This entry, I mean)

Hey guys, how ya doin? Oh yeah? Hm, well that's good to hear.
Anyway, I've been putting this post off for a few days. Figured it was about time to actually do it. If I do everything I've planned on, this'll probably be the richest post yet. Then again, I usually run out of steam or forget things. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. I'll just dive on in.

Indie Games
No, not Indiana Jones. Independent games. I was watching The Screen Savers on G4TechTV and caught a segment about indie games, and specifically an indie game site called Game Tunnel. Decided to check out their list of the best indie games of 2004, and downloaded a bunch of demos. Some were good. Some had annoying demo limits. Some didn't float my boat. But these did:

BreakQuest by Nurium Games
Price: $20 (Demo available - 5 levels)
Ok, so you've seen DXBall, Breakout, Arkanoid, blah blah blah. It's old news, it's played out. Well this game flies in the face of all that and says "Hey guys, I'm actually freakin' awesome!" And awesome it is. My first impression of this game was "This is the Rez of Breakouts." And while that's not entirely accurate, I still hold to it, because it's just that good. It's got a very robust physics engine, innovative weapons/powerups/powerdowns, very original stage designs, crisp graphics, and great sound. Just the five levels I played in the demo were very satisfying, and the full game has 100 different stages. Best Breakout Ever? BreakQuest has MY vote.

Hamsterball Gold by Raptisoft
Price: $15 (Demo available - timed, I think)
Remember Marble Madness on the NES? If you don't, let's just say it's probably what the underlying inspiration for Super Monkey Ball is. The concept: you're a marble. You want to get to the goal. There's a tricky environment full of pitfalls, traps, and other things designed to get in your way. That's it. Well this is Marble Madness, only in true 3D and a hamster in a ball. It takes that same old gameplay concept, gives it a fresh coat of paint, a tune up, and hangs a little pine air freshener from the mirror. The levels I played were good, but then the "demo over!" screen popped up and I havent really picked it up since. It was worth the time i spent with it. Reccommended.

Glace by Tommy Visic
Price: Totally free!
Glace is the quintissential platformer. You get some nifty abilities, romp through colorful environments full of colorful stuff, jump around and stuff, you know the drill. The story, from what I've seen, is lame and pretty much throwaway. It's still a good game. I like the abilities you get. I'd appreciate a bit more variety, though.

Those are the only games that I really enjoyed out of the ones I played. All were found via Game Tunnel. Check them out for more great games and their reviews of these games.

Flash Movies
Found some good ones for you guys.

8-Bitch5: EvilOnTheAttack By: Disaster Labs
The Arfenhouse crew is back, baby! Honestly, I shouldnt have to say anything else. Pure hilarity.

FF: Mixed in Balamb 2 (1/3) By: 5-7

This really surprised me. I think I remember passing up the first installment in this series, seeing the title and passing it off as yet another FF flash. I decided to give this a shot and, to my amazement, it was actually quite good. Watch it, it doesn't disappoint.

Green Brown By: thirstyforchicken
Just a nicely done little fight scene.

Super Mario Gaming World By Blordow
Another Mario movie. Clever. I liked it.

Videos
Water Balloons in Space By NASA, I guess
Ever seen a water balloon in space? Neither had I, until I watched . Very very cool.

Rockin' Out, Mario Style By Some Crazy Asian
Very cool guitar work. This guy does sound effects along with the music. Cool.

California, oh how confused you are...

So California high school students hoping to use a Halo 2 tournament to raise money for tsunami victims got the plug pulled by their school district. They figured the popularity would gurantee a sizable donation, and even got waivers from all the participant's parents condoning the violent nature of the game. But the school board put a halt on it, saying that it couldn't allow anything that promoted violence in any way. The students said that they didn't believe the problem was with the game, but with the school district itself, which canceled last year's Halloween festivities out of respect for (get this) wiccans!
Oh California, you so crazy.

Might edit in some more "content" (I still chuckle at that one) later on tonight. We'll see.

Guess what, kids! Time for more links!

They've got some slick games, plus it's the home of the ever-awesome Rasterbator! I know how I'm pimping my dorm! Some good examples I've found: 1 2 3 4 Hey, is that a Combine soldier in 3? Hundreds of more, and the ability to make your own at the site, check it out if you still haven't!

zomg! First Poast!

Welcome...
Welcome to City 17.
Oh wait, sorry. Never mind that.
Anyway, I know what you're thinking. You're probably thinking "Oh god, he's got a journal, he's gonna REALLY bitch now!" But (surprose surprise!) that's not the case! This isn't gonna be a livejournal, it's mainly gonna be a receptacle for all the cool shit I find on the interwebs. So please don't fear.testing

Let me reiterate that point: This is not a bitch space! I'm guranteeing right here that it's gonna be 100% angst free. I may still use this as a place to chronicle some events, but I dbout it'll be too often, and most likely it'll be something short, something like this:

  • Ray's birthday rocked.
See, that didn't hurt much, now did it? Okay, let's get you a sesame street band-aid and a lollipop.

But, like I said, this is primarily going to be a place for me to put cool shit, so hey, lets get started with that, shall we?

Stuff that I feel is cool:

SquareEnix issued a cease and desist, and I died a little inside.
Watch the trailer, and you'll see why.

Alright, thats enough for now.
Oh, and if any of you read this, post a comment or tell me or something, otherwise I'll have no way of knowing anybody's reading this. (haha! someone reading this! that's a good one! wooh, i crack me up)

Be careful you don't get the uh-ohs with your no-nos.
